Philo Introduces Essential Plan as Streaming Service Restructures Subscription Tiers
The live TV streaming platform Philo has unveiled a new subscription structure, introducing an Essential plan that provides a more affordable alternative to its premium offerings. This development comes just months after the company increased pricing for its existing Core subscription package.
The streaming service now operates with two distinct tiers: the newly launched Essential plan priced at $25 monthly, and Bundle Plus, which represents a rebranded version of the previous Core plan at $33 per month. The Essential option delivers access to over 70 live television channels, includes 80,000 on-demand titles, and features unlimited cloud DVR storage that retains recordings for twelve months. New subscribers can test the Essential tier through a seven-day complimentary trial period.
Bundle Plus subscribers receive everything included in the Essential package, plus additional streaming services: AMC Plus with advertisements, HBO Max, and Discovery Plus. The company has indicated that while AMC Plus currently offers an ad-free upgrade option, similar commercial-free alternatives for HBO Max and Discovery Plus will become available at a later date. Unlike the Essential tier, Bundle Plus does not include a free trial period.
According to Philo representatives, the introduction of the Essential plan reflects the company’s commitment to offering greater subscription flexibility. The $8 price difference between the two tiers creates an opportunity for viewers who prefer live television content without requiring the additional premium streaming services bundled with the higher-priced option. The platform continues to maintain its collection of free, advertisement-supported channels across both subscription levels.
